Born in Q4-1921 [ Easthamstead, Berks. 2c:724], the son of Cecil Arthur Octavius and Frances M.CARYER (née FOSTER) of Scaltback Stud, Newmarket.
In Norwich in Q3-1943 he married Daphne Iris GREENGRASS. Their son Peter was born Q3-1944, registered in Norwich

Paul started work with Norwich Union Insurance at 17 in September 1939 and enlisted in the RAF in 1941.

In the 1939 register his wife to be, Daphne [31-3-1920] a raincoat saleswoman, was at 89 Cecil Road, Norwich with her widowed mother Nellie GREENGRASS [26-12-1880] and her sister Stella [4-11-1916] a grocer's typist (later Mrs TAYLOR) and widowed Ellen BAKER [13-5-1862].
His parents were at Scaltback Stud, Exning Road, Newmarket, father Cecil [12-4-1876] a stud groom; mother Frances [9-9-1882] and his aunt Henrietta FOSTER [11-1-1872] a retired childrens nurse.

He gained his wings in Canada and spent 2 years as an instructor before joining his bomber squadron.

Avro Lancaster Mk3, LM648, c/s KM-K, of 44 Squadron was airborne at 16:33 on 11th November 1944 from RAF Spilsby in Lincolnshire to raid Harburg on the southern edge of Hamburg. Returning to base on the 12th November it collided in circuit with another Lancaster of 207 Squadron (PB428). Both aircraft crashed out of control, LM648 just north of the airfield at Scremby killing all on board. F/O Grassie is buried in Harrogate and F/S Mitchell in Cambridge City Cemetery , but the rest were all buried in their home towns. The whole crew were:

Paul is buried in Newmarket Cemetery - Ref; H:1158A
and is commemorated on the Exning Road plaque, kept in the Exning Road Working Mens Club, Newmarket
